Embracing the Unknown: How Filming My Web Series Transformed My Career

The day I stepped onto the set to film my web series "Life of Jess," a wave of excitement and nerves washed over me. We were filming in a high school in sunny Queensland, and I couldn't help but smile as I prepared to portray my 16-year-old self in this passion project.

As I walked through the school's campus, my suitcase filled with carefully sourced wardrobe choices in hand, I felt a mix of determination and uncertainty. You see, this project was more than just acting; it was a dream brought to life. But I never could have anticipated the size of the production team awaiting me.

In that gymnasium, I was introduced to a team of talented individuals - hair and makeup artists, wardrobe stylists, the assistant director, sound engineers, videographers, an incredible cast, about 20 extras, the props team, set design experts, and the ever-helpful runner. The scope of the project and the responsibility on my shoulders suddenly felt immense.

Doubt and fear crept in as my inner critic reminded me that I was venturing into uncharted territory. I had never acted, produced, or managed a team of this scale before. The pressure to make the series a success and prove myself as "good enough" was suffocating.

In that pivotal moment, I had a choice to make - succumb to fear or rise to the occasion. I realized that I could let the fear paralyze me, or I could turn it into fuel for my journey ahead. With Google funding this project and a remarkable team by my side, I knew this was an opportunity that I couldn't let slip away.

Instead of letting fear dictate my path, I turned down the volume on its nagging voice. I focused on taking one step at a time, acknowledging that I didn't have to be perfect. What mattered most was showing up with dedication and passion, ready to give it my all. It wasn't just about me; it was about the power of teamwork and collaboration.

As the cameras rolled, I immersed myself in the joy of creation, letting go of the need for perfection. Every scene became an opportunity for growth and learning. With each take, I embraced the unknown, and the fear transformed into a profound sense of fulfillment and accomplishment.

That web series marked a turning point in my career. It taught me the beauty of stepping into the unknown, conquering fear, and trusting in my abilities. It reinforced the idea that growth happens outside our comfort zones. "Life of Jess" was more than a web series; it was a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

As the founder of Study With Jess and a bestselling author, I can now look back at that day on set with gratitude and pride. It was a pivotal moment that shaped my path and showed me the extraordinary possibilities that await when we dare to embrace the unfamiliar. Today, I encourage you to silence your inner critic, take one step forward, and see where your journey leads you. Trust in yourself, for every opportunity is a chance to shine and grow. The world is waiting for your unique brilliance to light it up!

With love and courage,
